Please feel free to check out the show and tell at Kellie's place. She has all the information in joining the fun!!
This week for Show and Tell I have a photo of the jelly I made today. I made it from berries that my brother Kenney and his wife and I picked this past summer. I had the berries in the freezer calling out for months to make jelly. I got the jars ready last night and started out cooking the berries this morning. I only used half of the berries and strained out the juice and guess what? I only had half the juice to make the jelly. Needless to say, I had to cook up the rest of the berries. It obviously took more time than what I had planned. I had to take a break for lunch and had a 2 hour doctors appointment. When I came back I put all the juice in a pot and put in the sure jell and started the heat under the pot. I looked at my supply of sugar and it was obvious that I needed much more than what I had. I searched every cupboard for sugar but all in vain. I had to go to the grocery store and get the sugar. My jelly was in the jars 6 1/2 hours after I first started this am. WHEW!! It better have turned out after all of that. The berries I used are called "moss berries". I'm not sure if they are only native to Alaska but I haven't seen them anyplace else. They are the small black berries that are pictured in my header. The jelly is soooooo delicious!!
Here is another doily that my mom made. It is so delicate and has tiny green beads crochet into the pattern.
Isn't it lovely!!

A Dream Come True
My husband took me on a date last night to a Symphony Orchestra performance. It was held at the Alaska Center for the Performing Arts at the Atwood Concert Hall. The Anchorage Symphony Orchestra presented "Statements of Grandeur". I've ALWAYS wanted to attend a symphony orchestra performance so this was a dream come true!! It was a fabulous evening. To see a view of the concert hall, check out this sitehttp://www.alaskapac.org/theaters.aspx
We sat on the left side just above the main floor. During intermission we went up to the mezzinine (I don't know if I spelled that correctly), to see what the view would be from up there. I'm not sure that I would enjoy being up there. Then we went outside to a platform and watched ice skaters and saw some ice sculptures in the town square. It was lovely outside for a few minutes!! I'm so thankful for the gift of music-we are so blessed.

Friday show and tell
This week on my show and tell I'm showing the darling little tea set that my sister, Bonnie made for my one year old granddaughter, Mackenzie for Christmas this past year. Bonnie works a lot with ceramics and is very creative. Mackenzie was so delighted when she saw the little tea cup. I will try and get the video on this blog of her celebrating her gift.
I made these little "cookies" for Mackenzie so that she would have some cookies to enjoy with her tea!! They are about 3 inches in diameter.
I decided also to share another doily this week. My mom made this one that she used white beads around the circles. This is an eye popping doily!

Pretty much - ONLY in ALASKA
OK, this is what I did on Saturday, Feb. 16,2008. We took about an hour and 1/2 drive to a place called Point Mackenzie somewhere close to Wasilla, Alaska. Our son, Jordan, decided sometime ago to run a race in the middle of WINTER!! Well, this was as close to winter as you can get without the temp being below 0 degrees :) The temp was actually, 10 degrees or so. It was a 50K race and it started at 11 am. (the 100 mile race started at 9am) Check out the link if you would like more information on the race. It is called the Susitna 100 race. I made sure that he was equiped with all that he needed to be safe and warm. (warm is a matter of opinion-cause he said he would be warm and I'm thinking, "with those clothes-NO") But anyway, he raced and arrived at the finish around 7:30 pm with a worried mother awaiting the phone call that he was alive!! The temperature wasn't that big of a thing-it was the wind. It was HOWLING and it was snowing. Not good racing weather as far as I was concerned. He came back home alive and well, with no frost bite!! Believe it or not-he is thinking of doing this again next year.
Here we are at the start of the race-all excited for him! (I guess) :)
Does he look prepared for a winter run?
Here they all are at the starting lineup. The contestants could either run, bike, or ski.
Here they all are going up a shoot just beyond the starting point.
My husband and I walked up the trail a little bit. This coat looks like it would be warm but it is all show. The only good thing this day was the hood for protection from the wind. I'm sure you could almost feel the bitter cold of this day. Anyway, I thank the Lord for the protection and safety of all the racers.

Show and Tell Friday
Welcome to Show and Tell Friday. Please check out Kelli's blog.
I decided to share these photos of the sugar cookies that I have traditionally decorated for Valentine's day for years. They are a LOT of work but my family love to look at them and mostly, eat them. :)
Please double click the photos to get a closer view of the cookies-you will be able to enjoy them better!!
Here are the cookie cutters that I used for cutting the shapes for the cookies that I made.
This is the lovely doily that I have under the cookies. My mom made this doily. She does beautiful work which I enjoy and appreciate.
I hope that you have enjoyed looking at these cookies. I wish I could let you sample them though. :)
Happy Valentine's Day
Happy Valentine's Day! I wanted to share this photo of these little heart cakes that my mom and I made yesterday! We used a strawberry cake mix for the cakes. I made the 7 minute fluffy frosting from scratch. Frosting these was a messy job but fun. Check in tomorrow to see the cookies that I decorated and gave away.

Friday show and tell
This is one of the smaller doily's that my mom made me. It is so soft and lacy to the touch. I also decided to show some of my heart shaped pieces of jewelry for valentines day. :) The pink jeweled heart was given to me by my daughter in law, CJ. The heart shaped ivory earrings were given to me by my mom. If you look hard enough you can see a heart shaped pendant on a dainty gold chain, it was given to me by my son Jonathan. It has tiny diamonds and a mother holding a baby. It is very sweet.

Show and Tell Friday
This is a photo of a beautiful doily given to me by a dear childhood friend. It has rosettes attatched to the main doily by a beautiful green color. I keep this doily on a shelf next to my bed with a photo of my grandaughter, a small crystal clock and a teabag holder that holds a collection of earrings in it. The doily has given me much pleasure to look at and I hope that you enjoy seeing it.
