Show and Tell Friday

Show and Tell

I'm so excited to share this at Kelli's Show and Tell this week. This is a wheat or grain grinder. It's brand name is called a Magic Mill. This is the BEST find I ever found at a garage sale. I found it about 20 years ago!! At that time the Magic Mills were selling for about $250.oo. I got it for ONLY $10.00. It was used at times once a day while I was raising 4 children at home. I would grind the whole wheat berries fres
h every day and whip out a loaf of bread to go with the dinner. I haven't used it on a regular basis for about 5 years now. With the price of bread going up,up, up, I decided that it was time to get the ole machine out again. I'm sorry that I didn't put in a photo of the wheat berries in the hopper on the top before they go through the grinder and end up in the stainless steel bowl on the bottom. The bread turned out great and was so tasty with the jelly I made a couple of weeks ago!

I had to make the dough by hand because I gave my kitchen aid away when we moved. I must admit, I didn't knead the dough long enough. I didn't want to over do my wrist with all of the pressure needed for the kneading. :)

All ready to put into the bread pan.
I have used the tall juice cans for years for baking bread. I makes a perfect sized serving and a wonderful crust all the way around.

Ready for the oven!

It looks a little pale because of the photo-it actually turned out looking pretty. As you can see the clock on the coffee maker, it was the am not the pm when I made the bread. All done early in the day so that I could get out for the day.
YUM!!

Here is a tablecloth that my mom made for me about 20 years ago. It is made with white and blue thread. Each circle is made individually and put together. I used it a lot when the kids were growing up. Unbelievable it doesn't have too many stains on it. :) I treasure this piece of my mother's delicate hand work.

Firt of all, thank you so much for your very nice words on my little spring hearts! The idea of baking bread in a tall can is very special indeed. Me too, I am regularly baking our own bread and I really should try this idea!

I am happy to see that you, too, treasure your mother's hand work. I owe some blankets my mother made for me, too. How blessed we are!

Have a wonderful Friday!

Best wishes from Germany,
Anita

This tablecloth is beautiful! That was a great bargain on the mill! When I asked for a food processor for Christmas last year, I had no idea that you needed a certain size in order to have it knead the bread. Sure wish I had known, but your's looks like it rose beautifully.

Wow! What a yummy loaf of bread! You're right about the prices. I don't have a mill, but I have been using my bread machine more. Homemade bread right out of the oven is a dessert for us! Thanks for sharing. God Bless!

This is something I have never seen before. What an interesting and educational story. I enjoyed reading and enjoyed the thought of a family having fresh homemade bread so often. My Mother kept "starter" in the fridge all of the time and made bread for us regularly too. She also crocheted table cloths. I know the amount of time that goes into a project of that size. It is a real treasure.

I hope you will stop by and play Cookie's Treasure Hunt this week. I'm giving away one of my collages, Contemplation in a Parallel Universe..

Sending good wishes your way for a great weekend, and more great bread! I really enjoyed this post.

Hugs,
Cookie

I make my own bread when I'm in the mood, but get my bread flour in a big sack from the Health Food store. I'd love to grind my own wheat though. Loved your unique baking tin too! Nothing like that in the UK I could utilise. What a pretty tablecloth - what a talented mum too!

I love the mill! Amazing that it is so efficient even after all this time and much use! They don't make things like that any more do they? Enduring, I mean.
Lovely tablecloth. I'm with you on using these things. some would wrap it in tissue paper and put it away. I say let the family enjoy!
